Ever wanted a glimpse behind the scenes of an artist’s world? This is your moment.
In this artist talk, Carine shares her journey from being timid and silent to discovering her voice through art. She speaks about the power of vulnerability, how she faced failure and fear, and how her art became both a mirror and a reflection of her human experience.
Carine Van Hee is an abstract artist whose work wrestles with the rawness of reality and transforms it into something unexpectedly beautiful. Her creative process is rooted in a fearless confrontation with the world’s darker truths—dragging them into the studio, confronting them head-on, and shaping them into visual language.
A survivor of domestic violence, Carine’s journey from silence to self-expression is a testament to the healing power of art. Her canvases are layered with emotional movement, graffiti-like marks, and fragments of language, often sourced from real conversations with strangers.
Through abstraction, Carine creates a “social ground” where vulnerability meets resistance, and where beauty emerges from struggle. She often asks: If you’re drawing from real-world source material, can it ever be truly abstract?
Carine’s art is held in private collections across Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Norway, New York, California, and Massachusetts
