Bjørnådal Arkitektstudio has received two international distinctions at the Architecture Madrid Awards 2025.The studio’s Community Landscape in Tromsø was awarded Platinum, while Folkeparken School in Kristiansund earned Silver, recognizing two very different yet equally community-driven projects from Norway’s north.
The Architecture Madrid Awards are evaluated by an international jury composed of leading architects and representatives from public institutions in architecture, housing, and cultural heritage. Among them are:
Paloma Sobrini, General Director of Architecture and Heritage Conservation at the Madrid City Council and the first female dean of COAM (College of Architects of Madrid).
María José Piccio-Marchietti, General Director of Housing and Rehabilitation for the Community of Madrid, with extensive expertise in urban planning and real estate management.
Carlos Rubio Carvajal, recipient of the Veronica Rudge Green Award from Harvard University, with works exhibited at the Venice Biennale and major public projects across Europe.
Carlos Lamela, Executive President of Estudio Lamela, internationally known for large-scale works such as the Madrid-Barajas Airport terminals and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Receiving recognition from a jury of this stature highlights Kristiansund’s growing role on the international architectural map and reflects the region’s commitment to quality, collaboration, and future-oriented education environments.
Norway’s Minister of Education, Kari Nessa Nordtun, described Folkeparken School during her visit earlier this autumn as “completely unique, with a site nothing short of extraordinary.”
“For us, this recognition is a reminder that architecture can be more than a building – it can be a meaningful contribution to community, learning, and sustainability,” says Hans-Petter Bjørnådal, Creative Director and founder of the studio.
The project was developed through close and constructive collaboration with Kristiansund Municipality, Betonmast, Norconsult, and PIR2design, together with a wide network of designers, consultants, and contractors who contributed their knowledge and dedication throughout the process.
