Folkeparken School Completed and Handed Over to Kristiansund Municipality

Updated: Sep 17

Folkeparken School is a place where architecture, nature, and community grow together.

We are proud to announce that Folkeparken School has now received its certificate of completion and has been officially handed over to the client, Kristiansund Municipality.

The project marks a new chapter for the city – a school built to Passive House standard, equipped with energy-efficient systems and integrated solar panels, and guided by our vision of poetic and regenerative architecture. The building is conceived as more than a place for education: it is designed as a framework for community, well-being, and inspiration for generations to come.

Situated on the edge of forest and parkland, Folkeparken School strengthens the bond between children and their natural surroundings. Outdoor areas extend the classroom, while flexible learning zones inside, generous natural light, and robust natural materials create a warm and inclusive atmosphere.

The material palette has been chosen with care: RT 545 Atlas brick from Randers Tegl and Swisspearl panels give the building a timeless and enduring character. At the same time, energy wells, solar cells, and high-performance insulation reduce carbon emissions and ensure low operating costs.

Norway’s Minister of Education, Kari Nessa Nordtun, described the school as “completely unique, with a site nothing short of extraordinary” during her visit earlier this autumn. For us, this is a confirmation that architecture can be more than a building – it can be a powerful contribution to community, learning, and sustainability.

We would like to thank Kristiansund Municipality, our collaborators, and all those involved for an inspiring partnership.
